The rules of B2B growth are becoming less predictable. A favourable market can create opportunity, while new technologies can dramatically increase execution speed. Neither, however, guarantees that a business will be equipped to grow profitably or respond when the environment changes.
The differentiator is increasingly found beneath the surface: in the strategic infrastructure that supports expansion.
BBCIncorp CEO Mr. Oliver recently joined more than 700 multinational executives at the MMA CMO + CEO Summit Vietnam 2026. The event provided more than an opportunity to exchange ideas and build cross-border relationships. Its discussions around technology, brand development, and changing market conditions also pointed to a deeper shift in what businesses need to remain competitive.
Three insights are particularly relevant.
1. A growing economy does not guarantee a growing business
There is a fundamental difference between having access to a growing market and having the capability to benefit from it.
When GDP rises or a sector expands rapidly, the available opportunity may increase. But whether that opportunity appears in a company’s revenue and profit depends on its ability to respond effectively.
Faster customer decision-making and increasingly complex competitive environments make this capability even more important. Expansion can place new demands on a business and expose weaknesses in structures that worked perfectly well at a smaller scale.
A strong foundation across legal, compliance, and financial functions allows businesses to absorb that complexity without allowing it to become unnecessary friction.
Growth in the market creates an opening. The business needs the infrastructure to take it.
2. AI can accelerate the business, but it cannot decide where to go
Few technologies are changing the pace of business as significantly as AI. From search and customer discovery to analysis and personalisation, AI is enabling companies to accomplish more with greater speed and precision.
But acceleration creates a new strategic problem when everyone has access to it.
If competitors can increasingly automate and optimise similar processes, execution speed alone becomes less valuable as a source of differentiation. Direction becomes more important.
Complex B2B decisions still depend on trust, context, human understanding, and the ability to recognise what information actually matters. AI can support these processes, but it cannot replace the strategic judgement behind them.
Technology can shorten the distance between decision and execution. Strategy determines whether that distance is worth travelling.
3. Adaptability is becoming a business asset
A growing business naturally accumulates complexity. More markets mean more dependencies. More customers mean more processes. More technology means more systems that need to work together.
Without sufficient flexibility, growth can gradually reduce a company’s ability to respond.
The “Chopsticks” philosophy captures the balance required: maintain a stable and recognisable Brand DNA while retaining enough agility to respond to short-term changes and emerging opportunities.
This makes adaptability a structural consideration, not simply a leadership characteristic.
Businesses with flexible foundations retain greater optionality. They can pause, redirect resources, enter a different market, or change course without forcing the entire organisation to start again.
The path forward
The conversations at MMA CMO + CEO Summit Vietnam 2026 point towards a broader conclusion: the next era of B2B growth will require businesses to strengthen more than their technology stack.
They will need strategic infrastructure capable of supporting expansion, absorbing complexity, and preserving flexibility as the market evolves.
BBCIncorp will explore these three themes further in the weeks ahead through a dedicated Thought Leadership series, examining how businesses can strengthen their foundations and prepare for the demands of 2027 and beyond.
